Pitco Fryer Troubleshooting

Here, you can get the instructions of the Pitco fryer troubleshooting manual.

Power failure

If electric power is removed, then the appliance will shut down. Wait for five minutes after the power is restored before attempting to restart the appliance. This will take some time for any gas that may have accumulated in the burner or tubes to dissipate. You can follow the appliance start-up procedure which is given in the owner's Pitco fryer troubleshooting manual.

High-temperature limit switch

Pitco deep fryer is equipped with a high-temperature limit switch. This switch will stop the unit from functioning when the oil temperature in the cook tank reaches an unsafe temperature. If the high-temperature limit has tripped, you have to follow the below process to reset the high limit switch.

  • Turn off the deep fryer.
  • Leave the unit ample time to cool to room temperature.
  • Now, add oil to the cook tank as needed.
  • After that, press the high temperature reset button.
  • Now, the switch is rest, and the fryer is ready to start.

Drain Valve Interlock and Float Switch

If your deep fryer is designed with a drain valve interlock circuit, the unit stops heating when the tank drain valve is opened. If your unit has a float switch, it will stop heating when the oil level reaches an unsafe mark. Moreover, the fryer will turn off in some cases. So, you have to do two or three steps of the process to resume operation after the drain valve interlock is tripped.

  • Initially, turn off the deep fryer.
  • Close the tank drain valve and fill the tank with oil or shortening.
  • Now, turn the deep fryer ON.

Self-Cleaning Burner System

If your unit is equipped with the self-cleaning burner system, it will execute a cleaning cycle every time the unit is turned ON from OFF state. These types of models are designed with a thermal cut out switch to disable the fryer when the self-cleaning burner system malfunctions and remains activated for an extended period. It also disables the unit, if there is a downdraft into the flue or blocked flue situation.

Resetting the self-cleaning burner system temperature limit switch

  • To reset this limit switch, first, you should turn off the appliance.
  • Allow the fryer some time to cool down to room temperature.
  • Now, press the self-cleaning burner system (SCBS) high limit reset button. This button is located behind the front panel at the top of the main burners.
  • After reset, the SCBS limit switch is ready for startup.
  • Still, the SCBS high-temperature limit switch continues to trip, you have to consult an authorized person.

Pilot light won't stay lit or ignite

When the pilot light does not stay on, it prevents the oil from proper heating. If your controller displays an ignition failure, you have to turn off the controller and check the pilot light issues. These problems include poor gas supply, not sparkling, etc. The gas supply will be limited when grease or debris buildup in the burner. Also, there could be a pressure issue coming from the gas supplying source to the dryer. Open the machine and turn ON the control and check for sparks. If there is no sparkling, test the high limit switch.

Make sure the yellow gas valve is on. Turn off the pilot knob, next turn it to the pilot position, and push & hold it for 15 to 30 seconds. Light the pilot when you are holding the knob. If it lights, turn back to ON position. Otherwise, replace the required fryer parts with the help of a mechanic.

Pitco Fryer Filter Troubleshooting

The filter pump does not activate.

When the filter pump circuit breaker has tripped, this problem may occur. In this situation, you will try it by resetting the circuit breaker.

Oil is returning to the tank slowly or not at all.

If this problem occurs in your dryer, you have to check for the dirty filter paper, strainer cap dirty and filter pan not pushed in completely. For dirty filter paper, change or replace it with new paper. Also, clean the strainer cap. If it's not pushed, push the filter pan manually.

Excessive air bubbles are in the oil returned to the tank.

Check for pickup tube screen not tight, should tighten the cap.

Inspect for pickup tube screen cap has been missed. If happened, locate and install it.

Push filter pan in for complete connection.

Computer controller still displays "Draining" when the drain valve is closed.

It may take place when blue drain valve handles not closed completely or improperly adjusted or due to a defective drain switch. To resolve this issue, you need to take the help of a technician.

You can check the owner's manual for a detailed explanation of different types of display codes.
